When I arrived at the House of Uhuru, I was a pregnant and broken IV drug addict. Estranged from my children and my family. I had been living on the streets and in and out of jails and mental institutions for nearly 3 years. Hopeless in all sense of the term. At the House of Uhuru, I encountered caring staff, and a strict program that taught me about the disease I suffer from and offered me solutions my problems. I received prenatal care, therapy and was given access to the resources needed to rebuild my life. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and remained in their program until she was 6 months old. Today, because of the House of Uhuru, I am over 2 years clean and sober, have a loving relationship with all of my children and am a responsible member of society. I recommend this program for any and all who are struggling with the disease of addiction. ~ Truly Grateful
After several years of trying to smoke myself to death, I woke up in an alley desperate, not for the drugs, but for a new way of living. I reached out for help and the House of Uhuru was there for me. They helped me live a life free from active addiction. In treatment, I learned self-HONESTY. I learned how to be OPEN MINDED to the program and WILLING to do the work needed to change. I volunteer because I am forever grateful to the HOUSE OF UHURU for showing me a new way of life.
